Plymouth Argyle v Wycombe Wanderers

Sky Bet League 2, Saturday 14 September 2013 (kick-off 3pm)

Pilgrims Manager John Sheridan concedes that Argyle have been "a little up and down" this season, ahead of Saturday's game against Wycombe at Home Park.

Recent victories against Rochdale and Bristol Rovers were by secured by narrow 1-0 margins and sandwiched the defeat at Morecambe. Reuben Reid was the goalscorer in both wins and is the leading score this season with a total of three.

Speaking to the club's website about the potential sources of goals from his squad, Sheridan said:

"It doesn’t matter who scores the goals.

“It’s a team game and that’s way I see it. I think if you look at the forwards – if you include Tyler (Harvey), who hasn’t played much, and Lewi (Alessandra) and Romy (Boco) in the front five, I think we’ve got people who can score goals.

“I expect one or two of the midfield players to be in there – Conor (Hourihane), or Hamza (Bencherif) and Dom (Blizzard) or (Luke) Young, to chip in with four or five goals from centre midfield.

“It doesn’t matter if you win 1-0, 2-0, 3-0, 4-0, as long as you take three points from the game. That’s all that matters in my eyes."

Wycombe arrive on the back of three wins from three games, including their 2-0 defeat of Exeter City in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, as well as victories against Southend and Hartlepool.

After a shaky start to the season, Chairboys' manager Gareth Ainsworth has steadied the ship with his club lying eighth in the table, one point and four places above Argyle.

Both sides are sitting a little prettier than their respective 2012-13 finishing spots, but it is early days and three points can make a big difference at this stage of the season.

If it looks like a close match-up on paper, Plymouth will be mindful that they lost the corresponding fixture 1-0 (that scoreline again!) last season, although they took a point at Wycombe.

A win this weekend, by a single goal or more, will help to build the consistency that John Sheridan is seeking:

"The most important thing is that it’s still very early in the season and we have been a little up and down but we stay in the pack – just get that consistency in our game, pick the results up when we can and know that we’re going to hit form sometime.”
