Match Day Preview: Plymouth Argyle v Northampton Town

Plymouth Argyle v Northampton Town

Sky Bet Football League 2, Saturday 2 November 2013, Home Park (kick-off 3pm)

Following last weekend's high, when Argyle snatched victory from the jaws of another scoreless draw in injury time, John Sheridan's side will be focused on ensuring that it is merely the start of a steady climb up the League 2 table.

The win at Mansfield last Saturday helped to lift the gloom that had begun to descend on the team and supporters and felt like a validation of the manager's belief in his side. Now Sheridan must decide whether to tinker with a winning side ahead of Saturday afternoon's home game against Northampton.

“When I won the league at Chesterfield, I played certain players at home and I played certain players away, no matter what the results," Sheridan told the club's website.

"I might have to change a winning side sometimes, and it wouldn’t bother me."

Managed by Aidy Boothroyd, the Cobblers are under considerable pressure, with only Acrrington Stanley below them at the foot of the table. They have won only two games all season, though the last was a 2-0 away win at AFC Wimbledon early last month, which should be a warning to the Pilgrims of just how unpredictable this league can be.

Pilgrims fans will be looking for a victory with a performance to match as well as putting some much needed distance between them and the relegation places.
