Northampton Town 0

Sky Bet Football League Two, Saturday 2 November 2013, Home Park

Two one-nil wins, two very late goals to earn the points, but gradually Plymouth are beginning to show signs of the potential that manager John Sheridan has continued to champion.

Lewis Alessandra latched onto a fine through pass by Reuben Reid to slot home the 90th minute winner after Northampton goalkeeper Matt Duke had frustrated Argyle, despite some decent chances.

The Cobblers were well organised, but with only two wins to their name so far this season, they looked like a team the Pilgrims could get the better of.

Sheridan stuck to the 3-5-2 formation that he had returned to at half-time in the victory over Mansfield, after his 3-4-3 first-half experiment in that game. Romy Boco played in the hole behind the front two of Alessandra and Reid.

After a fairly attritional start in difficult, blustery conditions, Argyle gradually began to get hold of the ball and create some momentum. Chances came and went, as Northampton looked solid enough. They even began the second half with some attacking intent; a chance falling to Luke Norris which Luke McCormick saved well.

As Reuben Reid began to take control of matters, Luke Young and Paul Hayes came on to add some attacking strength.

Finally the winner came - the Reid-Alessandra interplay the key - and the Argyle fans could once again leave rapturous.
