
Inclusive Sport Plymouth launches this weekend
Following their successful application to Sport England for the Inclusive Sport Fund, Active Devon have now formed a new Disability Group called Inclusive Sport Plymouth who will become a “one stop shop” for all things regarding disability sport within Plymouth.
The group officially launches this Saturday at the Plymouth YMCA where there will be a number of different taster activities on offer as a sneak peak in to what the group has on offer.
The Launch gets under way at 9.30am and there will be activities happening all morning including Boccia, Table Tennis, Trampololing and even Climbing.
The group’s vision is that every disabled person in Plymouth can enjoy participating in sport and physical activity. Inclusive Sport Plymouth (ISP) is open to any organisation that has a vested interested in the aims below:
• To increase the number of disabled people taking part in sport & physical activity
• To improve the provision of inclusive sports and physical activity opportunities
• To embed inclusive sport principles into policies and practices
• To provide information, advice and guidance to local organisations
• To advocate and promote inclusive sport
The ISP will act as a reference group to identify and provide solution to challenges and barriers faces by disabled people participating in sport, enhance communication between sport and other sectors, Increase the capacity, skills, knowledge and understanding of the inclusive sport and physical activity sector workforce as well as identify opportunities for sharing best practice and to support action planning with key partners regarding development work and disability sport.
The group has been sent up by a number of different partners within the city including Plymouth City Council, Plymouth YMCA and the University of St Mark & St John as well as the Devon FA and Active Devon themselves.
