Devon Demons 40 Kent Kings 49
A spirited performance by Tim Webster failed to prevent Devon Demons from suffering a 49-40 home defeat against Kent in their National League match at the St Boniface Arena on Friday evening, writes Graham Hambly.
Webster scored 15 points from his six outings, but was the only home rider to reach double figures.
New signing Luke Chessell had a couple of wins in his eight points but the only other home race winner was Matt Bates, who suffered a series of falls and mechanical problems after picking up five points in his opening two races.
Demons co-promoter Ashley Taylor admitted: "There were too many spills during the evening, largely due to some over eager and strongly committed racing.
"But the meeting was very much an epitome of what National League racing should be all about."
Devon had both reserves withdrawn from the action on medical grounds with Adam Sheppard suffering a badly bruised thigh while Harvie Banks had a cut hand.
Devon: Tim Webster 15 (6 rides), Richard Andrews 7+2 (5), rider replacement for James Shanes, Luke Chessell 8 (6), Matt Bates 5 (6). Reserves: Harvie Banks 5+1 (5), Adam Sheppard 0 (1).
Kent: Rider replacement for Ben Morley, Aaron Baseby 9+2 (6), Sam Chapman 2+1 (4), Martin Knuckey 6+1 (4), Simon Lambert 18 (6). Reserves: Jason Garrad 4 (4), Danny Ayres 10 (6).
