London Welsh 40

Plymouth Albion 9

Greene King IPA RFU Championship, Saturday 28 September 2013

Albion's first big test of the season saw them going down to a heavy defeat against London Welsh; but the scoreline fails to tell the story of a first half where Plymouth's play matched their opponents' despite a 16-9 deficit at the break.

However, the London Welsh pack dominated in the second half, scoring three converted second half tries to add to one in the first half, to stroll to victory and taking a bonus point.

London Welsh have made it three wins out of three in the Championship, while Albion now have a defeat to add to the opening victory against Jersey and last weekend's home draw with Moseley.

Albion head coach James Shanahan told the club's website:

“In the first half we played pretty well but when Welsh emptied their bench in the second half we struggled.

“Welsh have one of the best packs in the league and their power told in the end. The players are disappointed but I can’t fault them as they worked as hard as they could.”
