Detectives from the major crime investigation team have continued to make a number of enquiries over the last few days after discovering the body of Michael Brincat, aged 76 of Marlborough House on Granby Way, Devonport.

Early this morning, Friday 15 February, at around 7am a 52 year old man from the Devonport area was arrested on suspicion of murder. He is now in police custody where he is being interviewed by detectives.

A murder investigation was launched following the discovery of the body of a 76 year old man at a flat in Devonport last Thursday.

Detective Superintendent Paul Burgan leading the investigation said: “While this is a significant development in the investigation I want to be clear that there are still a number of lines of enquiry to be completed and this investigation is very much ongoing.

“I would still like to appeal to local people to come forward if they have any information, no matter how insignificant they think it might be.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 and quote reference ED/13/718, alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
