Young people living in Plymouth are being asked to volunteer to help create a programme of activities for young people for this year’s summer holidays, better known as Summer Mix.

Plymouth City Council’s Youth Service is holding an open day for 16 to 19 year olds who may be interested in becoming a Summer Mix Ambassador for 2013.

The role will include helping to design, deliver and evaluate the Summer Mix project, and crucially, Ambassadors will help to promote activities to other young people at events across the city.

This is the fourth year Summer Mix will take place in Plymouth offering young people aged 11 to 19 – or 11 to 25 for those with a disability or special learning needs - living in the city the chance to try something new for free during the summer holidays.

Councillor Nicky Williams, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “Summer Mix is highly successful and a really fantastic initiative for young people to get involved with. Ambassadors will have access to free training and trips and they can also gain accreditation to boost their growing CVs. But most importantly becoming an Ambassador is great fun.”

Last year over 3,000 places on 100 different courses were available for young people to choose from and literally hundreds of teenagers from across the city took part.

Young people interested in becoming young ambassadors can pop along to the opening evening next Tuesday 22 January at the Frederick Street Youth Centre from 5pm until 7pm. To confirm your attendance or to find out more information, please email Senior Youth Worker, Emma Wright or call 01752 306595.
