Volunteer Lee called to Commonwealth Games
Lee Fergusson, an Audit and Information Facilitator at Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust is thrilled to have now been given the opportunity to volunteer in the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
After being carefully selected from thousands of applicants, he has been given the chance to work behind the scenes supporting the whole venue with communications, linking in perfectly with his earlier experience as a military communicator.
Throughout Lee’s life, he has continuously volunteered for numerous amounts of roles, meeting incredible people along the way and grasping every opportunity with both hands.
From working in youth clubs to proudly being selected as both a Games Maker and a London Ambassador for the Mayer, supporting both the Olympic and Paralympic games at the 2012 London Olympics, he is thrilled to be part of something completely different yet equally exciting.
Lee said: “For me, volunteering is an amazing experience and creates so many wonderful memories. I class it as a holiday and it beats lying on the beach any day.
“Particularly the Para sport really is an incredible thing. Even though I have been involved with disabled people a lot, as I have previously worked in a rehab hospital, it really did open my eyes even wider to see how incredible many people who are living with disabilities really are. They really showed me up”
Lee will travel to Glasgow next week for the Commonwealth Games, which runs from the 23rd July to the 3rd August. Continuing after the Commonwealth Games, Lee has already organised to travel to Antwerp in Belgium, volunteering in the Special Olympics European Games.
