Patients, staff and members of the public had the chance to vote for their favourite piece of art, as part of The Vinci Staff Art Prize competition. The votes were cast and counted and the winners announced.

The winner of the Vinci Art Prize, as chosen by a panel was: Sarah Wake for the Big ‘O’.

The winner of the Vinci People’s Choice Prize, as voted by numerous visitors to the exhibition and hundreds of votes made through the Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust’s Facebook page, was: Trudie Headford for Sunflower Garden.

The winners were presented with a certificate and prize by Nick Thomas, Director of Planning and Site Services and John Stephens of Vinci and their artwork will now be displayed within the hospital for a year.

Trudie said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who voted for me and for all those people who have supported me over the past three years since I started painting seriously. Without that support, I wouldn't have pursued this hobby.

“I still feel I am learning new skills, but winning this competition has given me the confidence to continue. Thank you.”

Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust, Vinci and Devon Art Pop launched the ‘The Vinci Staff Art Prize’ in August. In total, 26 entries were received, which were shortlisted down to a final 12. The competition was open to Trust staff and our colleagues from the Military of Defence Hospital Unit, Serco and Vinci.

The competition was initiated by Nick Thomas, Director of Planning and Site Services,  Jill Griffin, Healthy Bones Consultant and founder of Devon Art Pop and Di Brimacombe, Project Support Manager and keen artist, with the intention of promoting the hidden talents of our staff and providing some interesting artwork to fill the hospital corridors.

Jill said: “Devon Art Pop are particularly pleased to be supporting the Vinci art prize for staff here at the Trust, as we know that there are many staff members who are budding and experienced artists.

“The benefits of the arts on health and wellbeing have been widely reported and the wonderful range of works that have been shortlisted by our group of professional artists and Trust staff is testament to the enthusiasm for the project.”
