Plymouth police are appealing for witnesses after a van containing valuable tools was stolen and set alight.

The silver VW Transporter van was taken from the Kenley Gardens area of Ernesettle at around 6.30am on Friday 13 December.

The van was discovered a short time later in the Gravesend Walk area and had been set alight. The van was destroyed and more than £8,000 worth of tools stolen.

Detective Constable Philip Trevains, based in Plymouth, said: “This act, apart from destroying the van, also left the owner without the majority of his building/carpentry tools leaving him struggling to work over the Christmas period.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area at the time of the offence.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, quoting crime reference EL/13/5269.
