Sandi Toksvig Live! The National Trevor Tour

Sunday 02 May (Age guidance 14+) 2021

Sandi Toksvig is taking her hilarious smash-hit one-woman National Trevor show back on the road.

Sandi realises some people harbour an ambition to be a National Treasure but following a misunderstanding with a friend has decided instead to become a National Trevor – half misprint, half Danish comedian, novelist, actor and broadcaster.

Expect tall stories, fascinatingly funny facts, really silly jokes, a quick fire Q&A and a quiz. Don’t expect tap-dancing, leotards or a forward roll.

The Commitments

Monday 14 – Saturday 19 February 2022

The Commitments is a fantastically feel good celebration of soul. Returning to tour the UK and Ireland 5 years after a phenomenally successful, record-breaking run-in London’s West End and subsequent sell-out tour. The Commitments is based on the BAFTA award-winning film classic.

The Commitments received universal critical acclaim following its London World

Premiere and was quickly hailed as a smash hit musical sensation. With over 20 soul classics performed live on stage including: Night Train, Try A Little Tenderness, River Deep, Mountain High, In The Midnight Hour, Papa Was A Rolling Stone, Save Me, Mustang Sally, I Heard It Through The Grapevine, Thin Line Between Love and Hate, Reach Out, Uptight, Knock On Wood, I Can’t Turn You Loose and more! The Commitments musical has been adapted from the novel by Booker prize winning author Roddy Doyle himself and is directed by Caroline Jay Ranger.

Le Navet Bete, 400: A Historical Comedy

Wednesday 09 June – Sunday 04 July 2021

400: A Historical Comedy

Plymouth favourites Le Navet Bete (Treasure Island, The Three Musketeers, Aladdin) are back in town and in partnership with Plymouth Culture, have teamed up with renowned comedy writer Tony Hawks to return in Summer of 2021 with a brand new, action-packed comedy show like no other – 400: A Historical Comedy.

As part of Ocean City’s Mayflower International Festival, expect 400 years of history in 100 minutes, from the West Country to Wild West, from the Barbican to Boston. Join four idiots as they explore our relationship with America and possibly answer some of our nation’s most important questions like why is baseball ‘just not cricket’, why was Queen Victoria not amused, and why do our American friends call trousers pants?

Expect songs, dance, games, phone-ins, the odd special guest and non-stop laughs in a riot of red, white and blue mayhem. In the words of ‘The Donald’, “It’s gonna be tremendous”. Let’s just hope nothing goes wrong!

*(Originally programmed as part of the Athenaeum’s Summer 2020 Programme, 400: A Historical Comedy will now be taking place in The Drum theatre in Summer 2021. Ticket holders for the postponed dates should lookout for an email from Barbican Theatre, advising them of the changes and options available to them.)

Tickets are on sale to the general public from Tuesday 29 September and can be booked online at www.theatreroyal.com.
