St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth are reminding cyclists that you only have a couple of weeks left to register the Tour de Moor 2014.

The ‘off road’ cycling event will return to Harrowbeer Airfield at Yelverton on Sunday 14 September, a month earlier than last year.

An estimated 1,500 cyclists will tackle the rugged and challenging Dartmoor terrain on a choice of a 15 or 35 mile course, the 35 mile being particularly challenging with the hills to Princetown. The money raised will continue to help St Luke’s provide end of life care to patients at home, in hospital and hospice.

Registrations for the event will close at midnight on 10 September and St Luke’s are asking cyclists to sign up now to avoid disappointment.

Events Fundraiser, Emma Winter explains: “Due to the restrictions on how many bikes are allowed on Dartmoor at any one time, we do have an upper limit on this event. Sadly we had to turn away 300 potential registrations last year due to reaching our capacity early on. With the event brought forward from October to September to take advantage of better weather conditions, we are encouraging cyclists keen to take part leaving not to leave it until last minute to register”.

The Tour de Moor is sponsored by Plymouth based Itec, the leading provider of office print productions, document workflow solutions and production print across the South West, in conjunction with IT partners - The Stem Group.

Itec have supported the event for the last 3 years, Nick Orme, Chief Executive for ITEC explains why it is so important to be a part of it: “We are delighted to be able to support this event for the third year running – it has become a firm fixture in the Itec Events calendar, and one that our staff really look forward to.

"The new location at Harrowbeer was great last year and the uptake for the event was fantastic! With the event now in September, we are hopeful that the city of Plymouth will once again take to the Moors and really get behind their local Charity. The care St Luke’s provide to patients is invaluable – and of course does not come without a cost.

"Only through fundraising at events like the Tour de Moor are they able to continue to provide end of life care to so many patients. The event raised just over £70,000 last year, this year it would be amazing to hit that magic £100k! Having seen the event grow in popularity – we would urge riders to sign up NOW.”
