Sarah Corner, a Ward Manager at Derriford Hospital, raised £564.00 by doing a sponsored run, which has been split between Hembury Ward and Dental Specialities and Maxillofacial Surgery.

The donation to Hembury Ward has been used to refurbish their patient day room and Dental Specialities and Maxillofacial Surgery have used it to help with the refurbishment of the education room.

In 2009, Sarah was diagnosed with Adenoid Cyst Carcinoma, a rare type of cancer in her mouth. As appreciation for the care she received following her diagnosis, she decided to take on the challenge of the Plymouth Half Marathon.

Sarah said: “My small contribution has gone towards a new room in ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat) which has now been refurbished to provide a pleasant space for teaching, resting and the all-important sensitive meetings and discussions that ‘us’ patients dread.

“I was honoured to be invited to see the new room and really feel that they have created an excellent space in order to improve their service, the patients’ experience and the very long journey after diagnosis.”

Mr Courtney, Consultant Maxillofacial Head and Neck Surgeon and Rachael Buller, Service Line Cluster Manager, accepted the cheque on behalf of the staff of the department, who will be able to use this area for study and educational purposes.
