Space Youth Services has launched an innovative new podcast series featuring the young people who access its services in Devon.

The podcasts take the form of interviews with a group from the Hive Youth Centre in Exmouth and 100 Club Youth Centre in Exeter.

Recorded at the Hive over two days, the podcasts aim to provide valuable insights and spark meaningful conversations, delving deep into the issues that matter most to today's youth, from covid and its effect on young people to social media and gaming, family and belonging, and education and sport

Production was overseen by Space’s Senior Digital Creative Lead, Jay Jones. With a background in film production, Jay is developing the media suites at Space’s youth centre to encourage young people to develop an interesting in production techniques.

Jay, who not only set up the software but also hosted the interviews, asked questions and mediated the podcasts, said: “It’s really important to listen to what young people have to say - interviewing this group provided some incredibly useful perceptions about how young people think about the issues they face every day.

“Whilst creating the podcasts, I personally learned a lot about their perspectives. The group also offered some great ideas and insights into dealing with mental health issues and how to get the right support in place. I’d urge any adults working with young people to listen to the podcasts, as well as young people who would benefit from hearing from their peers.”

The first of the initial four podcasts will be live from August 30 at  spaceyouthservices.org/podcast.

Already available on the site is Jay’s podcast interview with new CEO Angela Coton, who chats about her background, her interest in the organization and aspirations for the future development of Space Youth Services.

Space is keen to hear from passionate individuals or teams who would enjoy being guests on future podcasts. Email comms@spacepsm.org to express an interest or find out more.
