Some of the Reasons Why Plymouth is Such a Great Place to Live
A beautiful and understated city in Devon. Plymouth is often overlooked by many when it comes to holidays and relocating, but the question is, why? It seems as if not enough people know about how wonderful a place Plymouth is, and if they did, then it would be talked about as a place to visit in the holidays, and even to consider relocating to a lot more than it currently is. This wonderful port city has so much to offer, and it’s about time people realised it! So, we’re going to take a look at just some of the reasons why Plymouth is such a great place to live.
The People Are Friendly
Surely one of the best things about living in a city, should be that the locals are friendly – and in Plymouth that is absolutely the case! It doesn’t matter what you need. Whether you’re looking for a local company to perform a cavity wall insulation removal in Plymouth, or a friend to go for a pint and some chips with at the local pub, you’re likely to find it here. It doesn’t matter what your accent is, where you’re from in the world, or what you do – Plymouth is said to feel like home to many. It’s not about who you are or how you talk, it’s about your kindness and what you have to say. Whatever that is, you’re likely to be accepted in this beautiful little UK haven.
There Are Plenty of Green and Open Spaces
It’s been scientifically proven that spending more time in nature, whether that be your garden or going for a countryside walk in the woods, is actually incredibly good for your health. Both mentally, and physically.
Well, if you’re sick of big cities and their lack of greenery, then Plymouth might be the answer for you. There are tons of places to go and enjoy the outdoors in nature, from Freedom Fields Park to Victoria Park. It can feel like a real rarity nowadays, living near the natural world and having ready access to it, but in Plymouth there is no short supply in this at all. Why not walk the dog, get an ice cream, enjoy the outdoors, and make the most of it? After all, science says it’s good for you!
It’s Right Next to the Sea
Speaking of nature and wide open spaces, did we even mention that Plymouth is situated right by the sea? That’s right. For those who have lived here all of their lives, this might be a normalcy, but for the vast majority of us going to the beach is something we only really experience either when we’re abroad, or it’s a sunny British day and we venture out. Well, whatever the weather, you’re right beside the beach in Plymouth.
Plymouth Hoe is the local harbour, and it’s one of the world’s greatest – and it’s natural. Imagine being able to walk along the harbour, (maybe) feel the sun on your face, and listen to the crash of the ocean whenever you feel like you need some “you time”. Well, that’s what it’s like living in Plymouth.
Its History is Fascinating
Although the city centre is now more modern, the town itself is laced in rich history. There are still physical reminders of the history of Plymouth throughout the town, two of these include the Mayflower Steps to the War Memorial and the Elizabethan House.
As well as this, did you know that Plymouth has actually been the location of several exciting historical events? That’s right. These have included parts of the English Civil War, and the sailing of the Mayflower to a new world. It’s pretty amazing to think that this wonderful little piece of British seaside has been host to some of the most historical events this country has ever seen.
It Has Great Facilities
Last but not least, on top of all of the natural and historical attributes Plymouth has as a city, it’s also home to some great facilities that include leisure, shopping and sport.
Plymouth not only has its own Theatre Royal where many touring and local productions take place, but it also has an arts centre, and even the local football stadium Home Park. Whether you’re a sports fanatic, love going out to the theatre or even just fancy doing some good old fashioned retail therapy, Plymouth has it all, and it’s all on offer for you.
