With its autumn term underway, SING Plymouth community choir, now in its third successful year, is working on a spectacular end to 2017. And seeking more singers to take part!

As part of its plans, the Plymouth-based choir will soon start working with renowned American jazz musicians, Steph Johnson, and double-bassist Rob Thorsen, who are visiting the UK at the beginning of October. Steph and Rob will be working with the choir to teach a song to be performed at SING Plymouth’s charity performance in December.

SING Plymouth’s end-of-year performance will be held at Totnes Civic Hall on Saturday 16 December in aid of Beyond Borders, a charity helping asylum seekers and refugees in the south of Devon. Sister-choir, SING Exeter, will also join SING Plymouth for the first half of the performance, which will be followed by the Hothouse Band (also fronted by choir leader, Peter Scott).

Peter Scott, who leads the SING Devon choirs, said: “Our choirs are about singing for a common good: to make people feel happier and healthier through singing; while also supporting good causes through our charity performances. In December, we hope to better the £1,500+ we raised at our last event for The Kambeng Trust and to have a marvelous time doing it.

“We are really delighted to have the input of Steph Johnson, who will bring loads of energy to our choir sessions, preparing us for our performance in December. If this all sounds like fun, and anyone out there wants to sing with us, then please do join in.”

For Plymouth residents keen to sing and join the choir, SING Plymouth is open to all with newcomers more than welcome. People can sign up for a free taster session on SING Devon’s website. Visit: www.singdevon.com/join-us-in-plymouth/

As part of their visit to the UK, musicians Steph Johnson and Rob Thorsen will also be performing at a community fundraiser for cancer care – Music from the Heart – which will take place on Sunday 22 October from 3.30-5.30pm at St. John’s Church in Totnes.
