Preparations for next year’s elections are already under way and Plymouth City Council wants residents to make sure they’re able to vote and have their say.

More than 116,000 forms have been posted to households across the city as part of the Council’s annual voter registration canvass. Residents are being asked to check the forms and make sure the information listed for people living at their address is correct.

With City Council and Police and Crime Commissioner elections taking place across the region next May, it’s important to keep the electoral register up-to-date and encourage residents who aren’t already registered to sign up.

Electoral Services Manager Nigel Spilsbury said: “If you want to have your say at the elections next year, you have to be on the register. The first step is to check the form when it arrives and either confirm or amend the details.

“You can either send the form back to us in the freepost envelope provided or confirm your details online, by phone or by text, using the details on the form.

“If you’re not already on the electoral register – or you’ve moved house in the last year –– we will then send you a voter registration form. We’ll also send you information on how to register online, if you’d prefer to do it this way.

“It’s really important that everyone who is entitled to vote is able to and it’s now easier than ever to register.”

If you’ve lost your form or need help filling it in call the Council’s electoral services team on 304866 or 304936. More information on registering to vote is available at www.plymouth.gov.uk/elections.
