For the first time, Buckland Abbey, near Yelverton, will be re-opening its park and gardens after Christmas, from 27th December – 3rd January (closed New Year’s Day).

This is to welcome visitors and their four legged friends for a moment of relaxation and tranquillity in the woodlands, as well as for a bit of fresh air during the winter holidays. It’s the perfect time to walk off the over-indulgence from Christmas and explore this countryside estate looked after by the National Trust.

Doug Munford, Area Ranger at Buckland Abbey said: ‘what could be better than a walk through the woods on a frosty winter’s day? Our four way marked trails across the estate offer spectacular views across Dartmoor and the Tavy valley’.

He continued: ‘it’s the first time that we’ve opened the estate for walkers after Christmas; I’m pleased that I can now open up my annual post-Christmas walk to everyone’.

During the post-Christmas opening, Buckland’s gardens will also be open, offering a place to enjoy a moment of peace and quiet,

Richard Burrow, Visitor Experience Officer said: ‘it’s the first time ever that we’ve opened up the estate after Christmas for walkers of all ages to enjoy. It’s great that we’re giving visitors more opportunities like this to discover this special place’.

After exploring the gardens and estate, visitors are invited the roaring fire in the Ox Yard restaurant with a mug of hot chocolate. The shop will also be open for those who want to find a bargain in the post-Christmas sale.
