Positive news in a challenging time as Carrie achieves Law Society’s Children Law Accreditation

Senior Associate Solicitor Carrie Laws from The Family Law Company has been accredited by the Law Society and accepted as a member of the Law Society’s Children Law Panel, meaning she will be able to help even more children in need.

The accreditation gives Carrie a recognised quality standard as a practitioner representing children in children law proceedings. It allows Guardians (appointed by the court to represent the rights and interests of children in cases that involve social services) to call on her when they need someone to represent a child.

With 15 years working in law, Carrie has accrued considerable experience and skills. During her time at The Family Law Company in Plymouth, she has dealt with some of the most serious cases concerning children.

This experience stood her in good stead during the stringent application process, which requires evidence that the required level of competence and knowledge, as defined by the Law Society in the area of children law and the representation of children, has been achieved.

Carrie cross qualified from Chartered Legal Executive to Solicitor in September 2019 and undertook a Law Society Children Law Panel course in October, before submitting her application in January. She was interviewed in London in mid-March by two Panel solicitors; Carrie says they had ‘phenomenal experience’ and really put her through her paces.

Business Development Director, Rachel Buckley said: “It is so refreshing to receive a really positive piece of news at this challenging time.

“A huge amount of work goes into the application, and we are all proud of Carrie for her achievement.”

Carrie’s accreditation also means she can join her Plymouth colleague, Director Kirsty Thyer who is already on the Panel, in supervising junior members of the team on cases requiring representation of children.
