Police are treating a car fire in the Southway area of Plymouth as "arson with intent to endanger life".

At some time just before 11.30pm on Sunday 7 July a grey Ford Focus was set alight and destroyed while parked on a driveway on Southway Lane in the city.

A police spokesman said: “We would like to hear from anyone who saw the fire to contact us. It was a warm evening so some residents may have had windows open and heard something.”

The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service attended to the car fire on Sunday night and believed it may have been started deliberately.

One fire engine from Crownhill attended. The fire was brought under control at 11.51pm and extinguished using one hosereel jet.  The vehicle was severely damaged.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 and give reference EL/13/2729, alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
