MORE than forty Plymouth Primary Schools attended the city’s first Science Hub Conference to try to help them and their pupils to engage more with the subject.

The event, held at The China Fleet Country Club at Saltash, was organised by Carla Jenkinson and Sara Gill from Leigham Primary School and Prince Rock Primary School.

It is part of the Plymouth Teaching Schools and is the first Science Hub to be launched by the organisation.

“We are hoping that this will be the start of a very positive and powerful message to schools across the city that we are taking science seriously and we are here to help them make it come alive both in and out of the classroom,” said organiser Carla.

“It’s been fantastic to see such amazing support from teachers and we will be holding four hub meetings a year and another conference. Everyone is welcome and they just need to get in touch and sign up.”

Speakers on the day were from the National Marine Aquarium, Beach Schools South West, Natural Connections, Maritime Plymouth, the Woodlands Project and Ali Beaumont who is an Independent Science Consultant.

The next meeting will be on 24th November at 1pm at Prince Rock Primary School. To book a place please contact http://plymouthteachingschool.co.uk/
