South-West creative agency Toucan is delighted to announce that this year’s winner of its typography award is Plymouth University student Emma Leigh.

Emma, who is a third year undergraduate, beat more than 25 competitors with her project to rebrand an independent theatre.

Josh Beadon, creative director for award-winning Toucan, said although the standard of work was very high, and the decision difficult, they had been particularly impressed with Emma's work for Tobacco Factory Theatres near her home in Bristol.

“We felt that it is very well-rounded and realised body of work which demonstrates a high sense of design aesthetic. What’s more, it is a highly believable and commercially viable design solution,” added Josh.

The award, which comes with £100 prize-money and mentoring, is made for the student who demonstrates "flair, imagination, creativity and quality in the design, use and/or application of typography within their work".

Toucan, which has been making this award for the past eight years, actively supports graduates into employment by providing paid internships through Toucan Academy.
