Plymouth student lands lead role with prominent theatre company
GO! are thrilled to announce its first Plymouth vocal scholarship student Alex Ward has been offered one of musical theatres most sought after leading roles. The popular musical theatre show "Beauty and The Beast" boast many sought after roles but none quite so notable as the Beast himself that Alex has successfully landed.
Plymkids, one of Plymouths most prominent junior theatre companies, with a 20 year production history, offer a vast range of opportunities to young aspiring singers and actors from across the southwest, and Alex is sure to develop further under their careful direction.
Marcus Alleyne, GO! Director of music said "We are thrilled Alex has been noticed for his hard work, enthusiasm and vocal development over the last few terms and has been offered this fantastic opportunity. I would also personally like to take this opportunity to thank scholarship vocal coach Colin Davey for his encouragement and first class vocal tuition over the last term.
"All of us here at GO! look forward to supporting Alex in February when the show opens, and hope you can join us. Who knows we may even be fortunate enough for a preview at one of our future concerts".
Alex Ward said “I’d just like to thank everyone for all their support and help, I’m well and truly blessed!”.
GO! offered its first junior music scholarship to Alex Ward in June 2015. Alex had volunteered to work with GO! as a ‘job experience’ pupil from Plymstock School. Two days into his job experience GO!’s Chief Executive Heather Hunter heard Alex singing in the middle of the derelict theatre and was so impressed that she interviewed Alex, reviewed his aspirations to enhance his opportunities in music and theatre and offered him a chance to become one of GO!’s first vocal scholars from Plymouth.
Heather said, “ Alex has worked incredibly hard over the last year and we are delighted at his progress to date. He has worked very well with Colin Davey who is an exceptional voice coach with whom GO! are delighted to work. Alex has shown us that the decision to create a vocal scholarship was an excellent move and GO will now offer a new individual vocal scholarship and also a group scholarship for ten pupils in 2016. The junior scholarships will be specifically for those who are aged 14 - 18 and who wish to engage primarily in musical theatre. Further details will be available in June”
