People in Plymouth are being reminded that the Safe Bus remains available every Saturday night, though it has moved to a new temporary location at bus stop DC2 on Derry’s Cross roundabout, outside Timber Vault Escape Rooms (PL1 2TE). The move is due to ongoing roadworks on Royal Parade, expected to last nine months.

The Safe Bus operates from 10pm Saturday to 4am Sunday, offering a safe space, medical help, and support to anyone in need during the city’s nightlife hours. Staffed by paramedics, security staff, and taxi marshals, it also provides drink spiking tests, phone charging, and help for those feeling unwell or vulnerable. The bus is solar powered and staffed by volunteers and professionals.

Since its launch, it has helped hundreds of people stay safe on nights out. Around 90% of those treated on board are discharged at the scene, easing pressure on local emergency services.

The initiative is run by Devon & Cornwall Police and local partners including Plymouth City Council, with support from Plymouth Citybus, which transports and maintains the vehicle each weekend.

Additional service dates this year include:

  • Sunday 24 August (Bank Holiday)

  • Friday 31 October (Halloween)

  • Fridays 5, 12 and 19 December

  • Freshers Week (from 15 September)

  • Tuesday 16 September (University campus, daytime)

The project is funded by a coalition including the University of Plymouth, Safer Streets 4, Victim Support, Plymouth City Council, and the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Office, which has contributed £10,000 this year.

Partners will continue to monitor the temporary location to ensure safety and accessibility for all.
