Plymouth prepares to host spectacular British Firework Championships

The city of Plymouth is preparing to host one of the most exciting events in the UK this August, the internationally renowned British Firework Championships. This year’s competition takes place on Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14 August 2013 with six previous winners going head-to-head to be crowned the ‘Champion of Champions’.

Plymouth City Council coordinate the event in partnership with The Event Services Association (TESA) and 2013 will be the 17th anniversary of the championships which is one of the biggest annual displays put on by professional firework companies anywhere in the UK.

More than four tonnes of fireworks will be set off over Plymouth Sound lighting up the skies as the country’s top pyrotechnics companies battle it out for the coveted national title.

Plymouth’s sprawling Hoe offers the perfect viewing platform for this truly incredible sight and thousands of Plymouth residents and holiday makers are expected to turn out for the event.

Over the two-day championships, three teams will compete each evening with the first firework displays starting at 9.30pm as dusk sets in:

Tuesday 13th August
Phoenix Fireworks
Selstar Fireworks
1st Galaxy Fireworks

Wednesday 14th August
Star Fireworks
MLE Pyrotechnics
Pendragon Fireworks

Visitors will also be in for an evening of music and entertainment including fairground rides and refreshment stalls which will open at 2pm daily, and music will feature on the performance stage from 6.30pm each evening courtesy of Heart FM, with performances by local band Joker on Tuesday and Rockafella on Wednesday and further acts still to be announced.
