A raffle held by local care workers and Plymouth City Council has raised £732 for Derriford Hospital’s Children’s Happy Hospital Fund.

The cheque was presented by members of the Council’s Quality Assurance and Improvement Team (QAIT) to Sue Rodgers, Play Specialist Team Leader at Derriford Hospital earlier this month. The Children’s Happy Hospital Fund at Derriford Hospital, which supports the children and young people’s health directorate and aims to make a difference for all young people.

The raffle was held at the Dignity in Care Forum hosted by the QAIT team in December 2016.

Councillor Lynda Bowyer, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care for Plymouth City Council said: “It is fantastic that so much was raised for the Children’s Happy Hospital Fund by our local care providers. The Dignity in Care Forum hosted by our QAIT is a great opportunity for care providers to share best practice, look at operational issues around training, offer help and advice with improving the quality of services, provide an opportunity for providers to network with one another and raise awareness of current local and national initiatives in the sector.”

Members of Plymouth City Council’s Quality Assurance & Improvement Team recently attended Derriford Hospital with Cllr Lynda Bowyer, Portfolio Holder for Adult Health & Social Care, to present the funds to the Children’s Happy Hospital Fund, and got to see the wonderful sensory room which has been developed from previous fundraising.

Sue Rodgers, Play Specialist Team Leader at Derriford Hospital, said: “Children’s Happy Hospital Fund would like to thank Plymouth City Council and the care providers in Plymouth for their continued support in raising funds for our children’s wards.

“Our aim is to enhance the facilities on the children’s wards and provide a child friendly environment for all that have to stay on level 12. It is fantastic that our charity has been chosen to benefit from the funds raised through the raffles and I would like to thank everyone who supported this event.”
