National sports events company GO2 (UK) Ltd, today announced entries are open for the Plymouth 10k sponsored by Mansbridge & Balment. Register online now at www.plymouth10k.co.uk

The race which takes place on Sunday 2nd November 2014 at 8.30am is now in its 4th year, and with 2,000 runners expected to hit the streets of Plymouth, is the largest 10k road race in Devon and Cornwall.  The Plymouth 10k sponsored by Mansbridge & Balment is a fast, relatively flat, traffic-free road race that takes an out and back route through the city centre.

The course will maintain the same route as 2013, starting on Princess Street, running along Royal Parade, into Exeter Street and Gdynia Way and on towards the Embankment. Runners will then loop back for the return journey finishing back at Princess Street. This is a relatively flat, quick paced route and will see many looking to set a new Personal Best.

Jamie Warren, Marketing Manager, GO2 said “We are expecting lots of new runners to take part this Autumn, particularly after the fantastic achievement by so many individuals at April’s half marathon, as well as those returning from last year in search of a new personal best. The running community in Plymouth is extremely active and growing, and we hope that the buzz will help set the event a new race record.

“The 10k is a great stepping stone for those hoping to achieve a longer distance in the future, such as Plymouth’s Half Marathon in 2015, and gives many a fitness goal to work towards for the Autumn.”

Independent Estate Agents Mansbridge & Balment continue this year as Official Sponsor of the Plymouth 10k. Locally owned the company believes in supporting a wide range of Plymouth community projects and continues to be a local business at the heart of the community.

Plymouth based Managing Director Darren Lawson, Mansbridge & Balment, said: “We’re delighted to be continuing our support of a local event that does so much to bring the community together and raises such a vast amount of money for worthy charitable causes. After the success of last year, it was great to see so many using the Plymouth 10k as a stepping stone into running and a healthier lifestyle. It’s extremely inspiring!”

The Official Charity partners are Cancer Research UK and Children’s Hospice South West. Plymouth 10k and half marathon runners raised over £75,000 for the two charities in 2013.

Susan Fitzgerald, from the Cancer Research UK Sports Team commented: “We are delighted to be the Official Charity for the Plymouth 10k. This fantastic event is a vital part of our fundraising efforts, and we hope that with the support of the Plymouth 10k entrants, we are able to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. “We’d encourage as many people as possible who are taking part in the race to join the Cancer Research UK team. Every step we make towards beating cancer relies on every pound, every hour and every person, so please join our team and help us beat cancer sooner.”

Judy Pride, Community Fundraiser for Children’s Hospice South West said: “We are proud to be the Official Local Charity Partner for the Plymouth 10k and looking forward to helping all our runners complete their individual goals. We are hoping many runners will chose to join team CHSW and run in aid of life-limited children. Their fundraising will make a huge difference to local families who need our help, care and support. On behalf of all the children and families thank you for helping make the most of short and precious lives.”

Race Organisers, GO2, are also working in partnership with Plymouth Transport & Highways to provide a well organised and safe event. Fleur Ross-Harris, Event Manager at GO2, said: “A number of road closures and diversions, will be put into effect on the morning of the race, to provide a safe, traffic free environment with as little disruption to the city as possible.”

More information regarding road closures will be released nearer the time.
