One week left to have your say on Local Plan and Heritage Strategy consultations
Residents and stakeholders have one week left to take part in East Devon District Council’s consultations on two important planning and heritage documents, both of which will help shape the future of the district. The consultations close on Monday 26 January 2026 at 12 noon.
Local Plan Final Consultation
The final consultation on East Devon’s new Local Plan invites feedback on updated proposals for how the district will grow and change over the coming years, including potential development sites, infrastructure, housing and environmental considerations.
Residents who have responded to previous stages of the Local Plan process are asked not to resubmit previous comments, as these have already been recorded and will continue to be taken into account. Fresh responses should focus on the changes and updates presented in this consultation.

Heritage Strategy Consultation
Residents are also being asked to contribute to East Devon’s draft Heritage Strategy, which sets out how the district’s unique historic environment will be cared for, celebrated and integrated into future planning and regeneration work. The strategy covers heritage assets, character areas, conservation, cultural identity and opportunities to protect and promote East Devon’s distinct sense of place.

Councillor Todd Olive, East Devon District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Place, Infrastructure and Strategic Planning, said:
“Both the Local Plan and our emerging Heritage Strategy will play an important role in shaping East Devon’s future. The Local Plan sets out how growth and development could be managed, while the Heritage Strategy recognises the district’s distinct history, identity and places.
“We want to hear from residents, businesses, community groups and partners before the consultations close, so we can ensure decisions are informed by a wide range of views. If you haven’t responded yet, please do take part before 26 January.”
Paper copies are available on request for those who are unable to take part online.
