Nominate a community volunteer to win an award at upcoming Devon Community Resilience event

Independent charity Devon Communities Together (DCT), is hosting a free community resilience event later this month and is seeking nominations for community volunteers who have really made a difference during the challenging times of the last few years.

Six volunteers will be chosen to receive an award at the event, which takes place on Monday 23rd May at Filleigh Village Hall, North Devon, with one being chosen to receive the top prize of £100 to spend on something to support emergency planning in their local community.

The Devon Community Resilience Forum event is open to anyone in Devon with an interest in community resilience and will be packed full on advice and information on being prepared for community emergencies such as flooding. It will feature a host of workshops and presentations from local experts, including information about the flooding solutions being developed as part of the Flood and Coastal Resilience Innovation Programme, training for Flood Wardens, grant application tips, how to get involved in the new South West Resilience Hub, behind the scenes at the Met Office during a severe weather incident and more. There will also be stalls promoting local projects and resilience products to try out.

Devon Communities Together project manager Laura Dixon explains: “As part of our celebration of community resilience we want to hear the stories of people across Devon that have gone above and beyond to keep their communities safe over the last few years. They might have been instrumental in getting a community resilience group off the ground or perhaps gave their time to reach out to vulnerable members of the community during lockdown. This is a fantastic way to recognise these special members of our communities.”

To nominate somebody for an award, send in a paragraph highlighting what the person has done that has really made a difference. Photos and videos are also accepted. Nominations should be sent to laura.dixon@devoncommunitiestogether.org.uk.
