New ‘Noble Grand’ at Plymouth Oddfellows
Members of Pride of the West with Saint Andrew's Lodge of the Oddfellows Friendly Society which meets in St. Budeaux Community Centre, Plymouth, have witnessed a special ceremony during which Bro. Michael O'Leary who has served as Noble Grand - in effect Branch Chairman - for many years handed over the role to Sis. Brenda Lowe who was installed as Noble Grand.
Michael now becomes Immediate Past Noble Grand and was thanked for his loyal service.
Brenda, who was initiated as a Junior member of the Oddfellow's Friendly Society before joining the Plymouth Lodge as an adult member 50 years ago, said, "I have enjoyed many years in the Oddfellows and even though my career as a radiographer took me far away from Plymouth, I remained a member of the Society attending branches wherever I worked. This meant I was never without friendship and support. On retirement, I returned home to Plymouth and so this now completes the circle for me. I thank Michael very much indeed for his service and have great pleasure in taking up this appointment."
A hearty round of applause from members present for both Michael and Brenda was followed by light refreshments.
Meeting for a variety of activities in Redruth, Truro, Plymouth and other locations and with all the benefits of a well-established friendly society, the Oddfellows always welcomes new members of all ages and genders and all enquiries should be directed to the Provincial Secretary, Bro.
