MP to deliver petition calling for an end to nuisance calls
Alison Seabeck, MP for Plymouth Moor View, will soon be delivering a petition to Parliament, on behalf of her constituents, calling on the Government to take action and end the scourge of nuisance texts and phone calls which so many of us receive.
Having collected signatures and whilst out on the streets of her constituency, and with the help of organisations, Ms Seabeck wants to see a review of the current law on cold and marketing calls and texts, which are often unsolicited, inconvenient and can result in charges when receiving them abroad.
Alison Seabeck MP said: “This is an issue that has come up time and time again while I have been out on the doorstep and talking to people in my constituency. Constituents, particularly the elderly and vulnerable, are being harassed, conned and scared by these calls.”
“The issue of selling personal data has been a contentious one for some time and in recent years it has really struck a nerve with many people. It is often the case that on just one occasion, if you fail to tick the box which blocks the data receiver from passing your data on to third parties when filling in your details during an online purchase, or a cross word competition in a magazine, you end up being spammed and receiving endless nuisance calls and texts.
“Many of my constituents want to see something done about this, as proven by the large number of signatures I have already collected. I will be handing this petition in to Parliament shortly and really hope that the Government will take action to end this irritating and often costly practice.”
