Motorcycle legends join forces for Gold Dust

Motorbike racing legend Paul Smart and Isle of Man TT winner James Hillier will be helping to raise money for the Gold Dust Appeal at GT Motorcycles’ Open Day on Saturday.

GT Motorcycles has invited the racing stars to help celebrate the opening of their brand new Legends café and roof terrace plus revamped showroom. They will be signing autographs as part of the day’s activities aimed at raising money for the Gold Dust Appeal. There will also be a raffle for a pair of BSB tickets, donated by Kawasaki, to a round of choice.

The Gold Dust Appeal is aimed at raising £100,000 to transform the children’s wards, creating a bright, welcoming environment on level 12 at Derriford Hospital. This will include tactile, colourful and interactive displays for patients and their families.

Margaret Gregory, Manageress of Legends Café at GT Motorcycles, said: “I have a personal connection with Ward 12 - my granddaughter Charleigh Mae spent a lot of time on oncology when she was poorly, everyone was extremely caring and kind towards her and the whole family.

“I thought it would be good to support a cause that will benefit everyone who spends time there. We here at GT Motorcycles are happy to be supporting a cause that will benefit all children, we think the staff do a fantastic job on Ward 12 and we are proud to be supporting them.”

The Open Day will run from 9am-5.30pm. Other activities will include a Legend’s Motorcycle Quiz and face painting and a Paul Smart Replica Ducati, an H2R, and GT Motorcycle’s Honda NSR 500 collection will be on display.

Anita Dykes, Matron for Paediatrics at Derriford Hospital, said: “We are very grateful to everyone at GT Motorcycles for choosing the Gold Dust Appeal. This open day sounds really exciting and I hope it will raise a lot of funds for us. We have received a huge amount of support from a whole variety of people, businesses and organisations – but there’s still a long way to go.”
