Marine Academy hosts Summer Showcase

Marine Academy Plymouth is inviting people of all ages to their first-ever Super Summer Showcase on Friday 26th June to celebrate the start of summer and the impending summer holidays.

The event, which will take place at Marine Academy Plymouth’s campus in St Budeaux, will see a variety of events and activities including a food market, live music, performances from students and teachers, sporting activities and more, as well as the opportunity to find out more about Marine Academy Plymouth and its students’ achievements.

There will also be a new business and enterprise section, where local businesses will be able to showcase their offering and students will be able to introduce their own business concepts.

Working alongside the Real Ideas Organisations (RIO), the day has been entirely planned by Marine Academy Plymouth’s sixth form students as a way of further demonstrating the students’ abilities and skills.

Luke Obee, business student at Marine Academy Plymouth and one of the student organisers for the day, spoke about the reasons behind the event: “We want people to start their summer with a bang with our Super Summer Showcase - an event to show what we as students have to offer.

“The word ‘community’ means something slightly different to everyone. To Marine Academy Plymouth, it means the co-operation, friendship and support of the local area. Without the vast support given by the community to Marine Academy Plymouth over the past five years, we would have been unable to achieve our dream of becoming a prestigious academy. With this in mind, Marine Academy Plymouth’s students and teachers would like to thank each and every individual within the community for helping us gain the ability to achieve our aspirations.

“This is why we thought there was no better way than to throw a Super Summer Showcase. Run completely by the students, this event will feature a variety of stalls and games to interest everyone in an attempt to create a fun day out for all who join us.”

Claire Honey, Contract Manager at RIO, spoke about working with students: “Over the last few months, we have been working with the students to help develop the idea and turn it into a reality. They’ve been involved in every aspect from naming the event to designing materials, to organising and marketing the event. They’ve done fantastically well and we’re looking forward to seeing how the event goes on the day.”

The Super Summer Showcase will take place at Marine Academy Plymouth’s campus in St Budeaux on Friday 26th June, from 12:00pm to 4:00pm. Activities available on the day will include a football workshop, trampolining, finger painting, sumo wrestling and much more.

Marine Academy Plymouth is an all-through campus for students aged 0 – 19 that focuses on the exciting world of marine. With an emphasis on science, maths, technology and the environment, Marine Academy Plymouth also provides access to opportunities for education outside of the classroom. It is the perfect place for students to become creative, innovative and pioneering individuals.
