Plymouth beach lovers will once again be able take a bus straight to the seaside this summer.

The number 54 runs to the popular beach of Bovisand, overlooking Plymouth Sound – and this year the season has been extended, giving families even more chances to enjoy the sun, sea and sand.

Operated by Target Travel and financially supported by the City Council, the ‘beach bus’ will run from Saturday 24 May until Sunday 14 September. It will run every day during the half term and summer school holidays, with a weekend service during term time.

Buses will depart from the A9 stop on Royal Parade every hour from 10am until 6pm (except at 2pm), returning from Bovisand hourly from 10.30am until 6.30pm (except at 1.30pm).

Councillor Mark Coker, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “The beach bus gives families a hassle-free way to make the most of our incredible location and enjoy a great day out over the summer. It helps to keep traffic down on the road and also means people who don’t have a car can still get to the beach. It’s been really popular with passengers and we hope everyone will take advantage of the extended dates this year.”

Ashley Taylor, Transport Manager for Target Travel, said: "We’re very pleased to be running this year’s summer bus to Bovisand beach. The service has been extended by Plymouth City Council to start at Whitsun and I am sure that this will be of great benefit in the build-up to the summer school holiday. Our usual range of discount tickets will be available from the driver."
