The Gold Dust Appeal has received a massive boost thanks to an extremely generous donation, taking the total now up to £75,000.

A huge thanks to BD (Becton Dickinson U.K. Limited), a plant that manufactures a broad range of blood collection products and systems, who through their employees have raised £10,000 after selecting Gold Dust as their chosen appeal. Their Head Office based in America then agreed to match their fundraising efforts through their Global Social Investing Office with a donation of a further £10,000.

Ian Smith, Human Resources Manager at Becton Dickinson, said: “The Plymouth Plant is pleased to support the Gold Dust Appeal. Since its inception, it struck us as a great cause to be involved with. Many of our employees’ children have either had a personal experience or know somebody who may have visited Level 12 at the hospital.

“Gold Dust has a clear objective - to make life better for children in our local hospital.  Creating bright and welcoming wards for the 10,000 plus children and young people who visit or stay in the paediatric unit each year made it easy for us to partner with them and make Gold Dust our chosen charity.

“Once we had communicated this compelling vison to our employees, they came up with many ideas, from running marathons, cycling velothons, climbing Ben Nevis, participating in triathlons and organising cake days and raffles. All have been a great success and supported generously by employees. It has also been a great engagement initiative for the Plant. We look forward to continuing to support Gold Dust to help them reach their £100,000 target.’’

Anita Dykes, Matron for Paediatrics, said: “I would like to say a special thank you to BD for this amazingly generous donation. It is brilliant that your employees all got behind the fundraising, organising activities across the organisation and successfully raising such a huge amount.

“This donation really has allowed us to take a huge step forward and get even closer to reaching our target. We now only have a few months to go, so I would ask and encourage anyone that would like to help us achieve this to fundraise or join in with some of the activities that we have organised in the coming months, you really will be making such a huge difference.”

The Gold Dust Appeal aims to raise £100,000 to create a bright, exciting and welcoming environment throughout the children’s and young people’s areas on level 12 of Derriford Hospital.
