Plymouth’s Piazza is being transformed into a winter wonderland, with the return of the outdoor ice rink.

Back for 19 fun-filled weeks, construction of the ice rink has this week started in preparation for its grand opening on Saturday 18 October. From 9am, families, first-time skaters, novice and professional skaters can enjoy the delights of this open-air ice rink – voted as one of Plymouth’s best visitor attractions.

Ice Angels, who operate the outdoor ice rink, will be presenting a magical array of shows, events and activities for all ages starting with their first on-ice celebration show at 6.30pm on Saturday 18 October.

The ice rink will be open to the public from 9am to 8.15pm Monday to Saturday and from 9am to 6.15pm on Sundays with skating starting at 9.30am making it a must-do activity during the October half-term.

During term time there will be school skating sessions on weekday mornings with public skating starting at 2.30pm.

There will be a spooktacular Halloween disco on Friday 31 October from 4pm. Visitors are invited to wear their scariest fancy dress as prizes will be awarded for the spookiest costumes.

Kim Downham from Ice Angels said: “We are extremely excited to be back in Plymouth and are looking forward to seeing some familiar faces on the ice – and some new. The ice rink is extremely popular as it provides that outdoor experience. We have already received a number of online bookings so get your skates on and do the same!”

The ice rink is one of the many Christmas features Plymouth City Centre will have to offer this year – one of which will be Santa’s Grotto, situated in Armada Gardens, also operated by Ice Angels.

Stefan Krause, City Centre Manager said: “The Piazza offers a great space right in the heart of the city centre for the outdoor ice rink and people of all ages love to get involved. We are really pleased to welcome Ice Angels back and we can’t wait to see the shows they will put on for us!”

Adults can skate on the ice rink for £7 and children for £5, tickets can be purchased on the day, however booked is advisable by visiting www.iceangelevents.co.uk or calling 07891 945 975. The ice rink will run until Sunday 1 March 2015. Occasionally bad weather might affect the opening times so it is advisable to check the website for up to date information.
