South West gardening business Otter Garden Centres is running a summer competition with a fantastic top prize.

The ‘Make a Scarecrow’ competition gives participants the chance to win a British-made Elite greenhouse worth £1000.

Gardening enthusiasts and imaginative creators young and old are invited to take part and enter their scarecrow designs, which will be judged by members of the public.

Otter Garden Centres Managing Director, Jacqui Taylor says “This is the perfect way to encourage families to spend time together outdoors and get creative.

“We’re hoping to see lots of original ideas that not only keep the birds at bay but also dazzle with their artistic flair.”

Each of Otter’s seven branches has two categories to enter: one for adults, the other for children.

All the scarecrows will be out on display and customers will be asked to vote for their favourite in both categories.

“To catch the imagination of voters, scarecrow designs should be bright, original, and fun; they don’t need to be big, but they certainly need to be full of character! And we’d love to see the incorporation of any items recycled from the garden, like bamboo canes, dried flowerhead, seed trays, even old tools,” adds Jacqui.

The top three entries in both categories will win Otter gift cards to the value of £50, £30 or £20. And once the branch winners have been announced, Jacqui will then choose the overall winner who will receive the coveted top prize, a greenhouse from competition partner Elite Greenhouses. Expertly crafted to provide the ideal environment for nurturing plants, flowers, and vegetables, this greenhouse will help transform any garden.

“This is a fantastic prize from a top quality British manufacturer. We’ve worked with Elite for many years and their products are highly recommended by our garden buildings team.”

Scarecrows being entered into the competition must be transportable as entries will need to be taken to your local Otter by July 23 so they can go on display in store during the following week.
