EDDC enhances motorhome stopovers in Exmouth
East Devon District Council (EDDC) has approved a series of upgrades to overnight motorhome parking in Exmouth, following feedback from over 1,000 residents, visitors and stakeholders.
Two key sites — Maer Road Car Park and Queen’s Drive Echelon — will benefit from improved infrastructure aimed at encouraging responsible tourism and addressing local concerns.
At Maer Road, motorhome users will soon have access to a freshwater tap and proper waste disposal points for shower, dishwater and toilet waste. Meanwhile, new parking bay markings at Queen’s Drive Echelon will help vehicles maintain safe spacing overnight.
To fund ongoing maintenance and enforcement, the overnight fee will rise from £11 to £20, with £5 from each booking going directly to enforcement teams tackling issues like anti-social behaviour. The RingGo-only payment trial will limit stays to two nights and prevent re-entry for 72 hours, helping manage demand and encourage fair use.
The changes follow a structured engagement timeline including public consultation and multiple levels of council review. The Exmouth Motorhome Task & Finish Forum played a central role in shaping the proposals.
Councillor Sam Hawkins, EDDC’s Portfolio Holder for Finance, said:
“Thank you to everyone who shared their feedback about overnight motorhome stopovers in Exmouth. Your thoughts have shaped these new arrangements, which aim to ensure that our beautiful seaside town continues to be a wonderful place to be for residents and tourists.”
