Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery is celebrating after receiving two separate tourism wards.

The venue has not only been awarded VisitEngland’s ‘Quality Assured Visitor Attraction’ accreditation for a ninth year, but has also just won a Certificate of Excellence from travel website TripAdvisor.

The Certificate of Excellence is awarded to businesses that make the top 10 per cent for consistently achieving outstanding traveller reviews on the website.

To qualify, businesses must be listed on TripAdvisor for at least 12 months and maintain an overall rating of four or higher, out of a possible five. Additional criteria include the volume of reviews received within the last 12 months.

Reviewers have described the Museum and Art Gallery as ‘a lovely museum in a great building’ and ‘a fascinating place to go to, whatever the weather’, with 82 per cent rating it as a four or five star visitor attraction.

“We’re so pleased to have received this award,” said Councillor Peter Smith, Deputy Leader. “The City Museum and Art Gallery is always striving to offer a welcoming and memorable experience with its permanent galleries, changing exhibitions and wide variety of events and activities. The TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence shows that everyone’s hard work is achieving just that and translating into positive reviews from the people who matter the most – the visitors.”

The Museum and Art Gallery has also just extended its run of VisitEngland’s ‘Quality Assured Visitor Attraction’ accreditations to nine in a row.

In a recent inspection through the Visitor Quality Attraction Quality Assurance Scheme (VAQAS) the Museum was judged to offer its visitors a quality experience and demonstrate exceptional standards of customer care. The inspector assessed its marketing materials, signage, toilet, shop and café facilities, galleries and exhibitions and was very pleased with what he found. The Museum’s family-friendly natural history gallery and its current ‘Women in Art’ exhibition received particular praise.

Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery is open from 10am to 5.30pm Tuesday to Friday and 10am to 5pm on Saturdays. Admission is free. For more information visit our Museum web pages or call 01752 304774.
