A charity dedicated to supporting men with cancer has been awarded £1,000 by a regional builder.

Plymouth-based a Dash of Silver has been gifted the money from Persimmon Homes Cornwall’s Community Champions fund to back its work in the area.

Dan Silver, the founder of the charity and cancer survivor, said: “Dash of Silver is a male cancer awareness charity that offers support and also practical care packs for men battling testicular cancer here in Plymouth. So far this year, we have handed out 30 of these packs and are committed to raise more awareness of male cancer as well as running our monthly Dashnet support group.

“This donation is very generous and will support us in our work.”

Dan Heathcote, director in charge for Persimmon Homes Cornwall, based in Launceston, said: “We are extremely proud of our Community Champions scheme. It’s terrific to be able to support groups and charities across the region with thousands of pounds every year.

“Men are notoriously reluctant to talk about their health and a Dash of Silver is helping make the subject of male cancers less taboo. It is a pleasure to be able to assist in this way.”

The Persimmon Homes Community Champions initiative invites groups and charities who have already worked hard to raise money themselves to apply for match-funding of up to £1,000. Persimmon Homes Cornwall has two awards of up to £1,000 each available every month.
