Peter Jenks, Director of Infection Prevention and Control at Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust, has been awarded to a National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Fellowship.

As a NICE Fellow, Peter will be an ambassador for infection prevention and control and will have the opportunity to use his expertise to shape NICE guidance and initiatives and drive a quality improvement change agenda, both locally and nationally.

The role will be in addition to Peter’s continuing work at the Trust. Peter said: “I feel really honoured to have been appointed as a NICE Fellow. It is a very exciting opportunity to be involved in promoting further improvements in infection prevention and control and to enhance the quality of care that patients receive.”

Peter was appointed as a Consultant Microbiologist at the Trust in 2004, and shortly afterwards became the Director of Infection Prevention and Control.

In this Fellowship, Peter intends to promote the implementation of best practice guidance in infection prevention and control, the treatment of infections and use of antibiotics.

Peter is also interested in developing methods that demonstrate that the improvements in patient care, achieved through guideline implementation, also result in financial benefits for healthcare providers.
