Derriford Hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit has been overwhelmed by the amount of support and generosity from the public, for their help with making the ‘snugglies’.

In October, Derriford Hospital appealed for volunteers to help make more snugglies, allowing them to keep up with the high demand. At the time, NICU only had three packets in stock, as the nurses were having to make them in their own time and unfortunately couldn’t keep up with the high demand of at least 30-40 a month.

The story reached 46,048 people on the Trust’s Facebook page and was shared 351 times. Since then, many members of the public have organised sewing sessions and NICU have been contacted hundreds of times, from people wanting to help support them with this great idea.

Lisa Gilfillan, NICU Staff Nurse said: “Since our last meeting, our snuggly appeal has worked wonders! We have had roughly 250 people get in contact with us and we now have a fantastic stock of snugglies and bedding for our babies! Thank you to everyone who has helped, we all really appreciate it and are extremely grateful.”
