Plymouth City Councillor Nick Kelly has chosen to donate £350 from his Community Grant Scheme to the Gold Dust Appeal.

Gold Dust is aimed at raising £100,000.00 to transform the children’s wards, creating a bright, welcoming environment on level 12 at Derriford Hospital.

This will include tactile, colourful and interactive displays for patients and their families. Mr Kelly, Conservative Councillor for Moor View Ward which includes Derriford Hospital, said: “I have two children and both were born at Derriford.

The Gold Dust Appeal will help to create bright and cheerful wards and hopefully this will aid the recovery of any children when they are there.

“It’s a great cause because all parents want the best for their children and this will help provide that in our main hospital.”

Each Plymouth Councillor has an annual grant allocation of £3,500 to fund community activities and projects in their wards.

Councillors can combine their grants to fund one or more projects or various community activities, if they wish. The Gold Dust donation is ten per cent of Cllr Kelly’s fund for the year.

He decided to donate that amount following a tour of Level 12. Anita Dykes, Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust Matron for Paediatrics, said: “We are really grateful to Councillor Kelly for his decision to donate a significant amount from his Ward’s Community Grant Scheme. It is a very generous gesture and will help us in our continuing work to reach our ambitious target.”
