Central park nominated for national award

Plymouth’s very own Central Park has been nominated for the Best Park 2016 award.

The parks been nominated by the Council’s Sports Development team for its wide ranging facilities which cater for all ages such as Bowls Greens, Football Pitches, Play park, Skate Ramps and FootGolf that cater for a range of ages and interests.

The Best Park 2016 awards are held by the Field in Trust (FIT). The FIT was founded in 1925 as the National Playing Fields Association by King George V. Their mission is: to ensure that everyone – young or old, able or disabled and wherever they live – should have access to free, local outdoor space for sport, play and recreation. These spaces are vital to building happy and healthy communities.

Councillor Mike Leaves, Cabinet Member for Streetscene and the Environment said: “We’re really proud of Central Park as it really is one of the jewels in Plymouth’s crown. It has the ability to cater for the whole family whether it’s a walk around the park with the dog, taking a cycle, playing football or pitching up for a picnic.

“Plymouth will be up against all other parks in the UK with over 2,600 parks being nominated last year. The winning park will be deemed by the number of votes it receives so we’re hoping as many people as possible vote.”
