A Hungarian Vlzsla, from Plymouth, is through to the grand final of a competition to find the Fittest Dog in the UK.

Bubb, the six-year-old working dog, has been crowned one of the Butcher’s Lean & Tasty Fittest Dogs in the region in the competition run by Butcher’s Pet Care, and has secured his place in the national final.

Bubb will now go nose-to-nose with nine other finalists from across the nation at Onley Grounds Equestrian Complex in Rugby on April 12th. The overall winner will be named The Butcher’s Lean & Tasty Fittest Dog in the UK, and will receive a year’s supply of Butcher’s Lean & Tasty dog food in addition to a holiday voucher worth £1000.

Rose Tabberer (50), who owns Bubb, comments: “Bubb thinks that life is one big game and constantly has a huge grin on his face. He is happy either in the wild or at home playing with his favourite toy. He can spring over huge Cornish hedges and across wide streams with ease. He also loves splashing about in the sea when I go swimming. He really is a fit dog who even dances for his dinner! We hope he does well in the final.”

The Butcher’s Lean & Tasty Fittest Dog in the UK competition is a nationwide search to find and recognise the nation’s happy and healthy hounds which live life to the full, no matter their age or breed.

Clare Scallon, from Butcher’s Pet Care comments: “Every day, we hear about the growing obesity epidemic in our nation’s pets so we want to celebrate and recognise those dogs which are fit, healthy and full of vim and vigor who are role models to other owners, reminding us why we love active healthy dogs! It’s the first year we have run this competition and we’ve been overwhelmed by the response. The standard of entries is exceptionally high and I would like to congratulate all of our finalists for getting this far, it’s certainly no easy task to pick the winner.”

Bubb has been invited to meet the panel at the grand final hosted by Onley Equestrian Centre on 12 April.

The judging panel includes Mike Mullan, dog behaviourist and Crufts judge, Anita Twigger who runs Pawprints dog rescue in Dunsmore, and representatives from Butcher’s Pet Care. The national winner will be announced following the final.
