BENCHES: A Neurodivergent Audio-Visual Exhibition
Following the success of work-in-progress previews in London, BENCHES receives its world premiere in Market Hall’s state-of-the-art immersive dome this spring.
BENCHES is a groundbreaking multi-sensory exhibition opening on 2nd April 2026 at Market Hall, Plymouth, featuring daily screenings in their 270-degree Immersive Dome for a truly enveloping experience.
This audio-visual work showcases an original score by award-winning composer Samuel D Loveless – recorded by Contemporary Music for All (CoMA) London – combined with an extensive photography display from amateur autistic photographer, Tim Hart, whose deep fascination with benches has led him to capture hundreds of images of everyday objects.
Supported by charities including AuDHD UK and Arts Council England, BENCHES invites the audience to see the world through new eyes and offers an intimate glimpse into neurodivergent perspectives through photography, music, film and interactive elements.
Captured over decades on a range of formats including disposable cameras, digital cameras and Hart’s smartphone, the photographs uncover a quiet individuality in each bench, highlighting the artistry hidden in everyday scenes. Loveless’ music reflects Hart’s joyous enthusiasm and thoughtful focus, weaving between playful outbursts and gentle, reflective passages. Together, Hart’s visuals and Loveless’ music create a window into a vibrant internal world, mirroring the rhythms of neurodivergent perception.
Composer Samuel D Loveless says: “BENCHES is about more than art. It’s about seeing the world through Tim’s eyes, finding beauty in the overlooked, and building bridges between neurodivergent and neurotypical experiences. Returning it to Plymouth, Tim’s hometown where so
many of these photographs were taken, feels especially meaningful, and presenting it inside the unique Immersive Dome lets audiences step into a world of benches, images and sound in a way a traditional gallery space can’t.”
Georgina Banks, Founder and CEO of AuDHD UK, adds: “The exhibition really highlights the overlap between neurodiversity and creativity, and how seeing the world differently can transform the everyday into something quite wondrous.”
BENCHES will be on view, free entry, at Market Hall, Plymouth during between 2nd-27th April 2026, with further UK dates planned across 2026/2027.
