BBC Radio Devon celebrates 30 years of local broadcasting at the Devon County Show

BBC Radio Devon held a special birthday brunch at their Devon County Show marquee this morning as part of their year-long 30th birthday celebrations.

Specially invited guests, including The Rt Revd Michael Langrish, Bishop of Exeter, enjoyed a brunch, while Mark Grinnell, Managing Editor of BBC Radio Devon, welcomed guests and spoke of the special relationship BBC Radio Devon has with the County Show.

With a total of 31 live radio shows presented over the three days, there are plenty of opportunities for the public to see live radio in action. As ever, BBC Radio Devon will be broadcasting live from all three days of the Devon County Show as well as hosting local bands and musicians in the dedicated BBC Radio Devon marquee.

The Birthday cake was cut by BBC Radio Devon presenter Tony Beard, one of the county's most colourful characters. Having spent many happy years as a farmer, Tony is a keen preserver of Devon life and culture, an accomplished entertainer and is known 'round these yer parts' as The Wag from Widecombe.

Guests were also treated to a beautifully sung rendition of 'Happy Birthday' courtesy of Trinty School, Teignmouth, who were also scheduled to sing on Radio Devon later in the morning.
