A loving foster home is urgently needed for an adorable cat taken in by an animal rescue sanctuary near Plymouth following the sudden death of her owner.

Bonnie, aged 9, was rescued by Woodside Animal Welfare Trust at Elfordleigh, on the edge of Plymouth, along with three other cats at the start of the summer.

But while the other cats have long since departed the sanctuary for their forever homes, Bonnie has been left behind, despite her affectionate and friendly nature.

Staff at the animal rescue charity are concerned that Bonnie is depressed and bored as a result of her prolonged stay, which is aggravating the effects of a flea allergy that she arrived at the sanctuary with.

They are now hoping to find a foster home for Bonnie for the coming months, where she will receive the love and affection she deserves which, in turn, should help to clear up her skin condition.

Sanctuary Manager Helen Lacointe said: “She is so friendly. Unfortunately this is a situation where looks go over personality, we see that so often.

“Bonnie came into the sanctuary with a flea allergy and had lost quite a bit of fur. We managed to cope with it quite quickly, however on her back it is improving but slowly.

“Stress and boredom have aggravated it. We have moved her around the sanctuary to try and give her a bit more variety but we feel she is getting depressed as she is not getting as much human contact as she would have previously in her home, and this isn’t helping her condition.

“She just wants love.”

Bonnie needs a home with foster carers who can give her time and affection, and who are able to bring her back to the sanctuary for veterinary checks.

The cost of these veterinary checks and Bonnie’s food will be covered by Woodside during the designated fostering period. She will also need to wear her veterinary collar while her skin condition clears.

“The ideal scenario would be to find Bonnie her forever home but should that not be possible we would like to find a foster home for her where she could stay for a few months while the kitten season is in full swing,” Helen said.

“If she is fostered while the kitten season is on, when she gets back she will stand a much better chance of finding her forever home.

“Hopefully having a loving foster home will reduce the stress for Bonnie and we will be able to get to grips with the skin condition in that time. We are not able to give her a lot of time and that is a big factor in her condition improving.”
