The Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) has amended its Articles to ensure stability and continuity during the upcoming transition period.

In April 2023 Heart of the South West LEP members agreed to amend the LEP’s Articles, to retain the skills and knowledge of private sector Board members for up to a further three years. This move aims to provide essential stability and continuity to the LEP Board during the transition period whilst partners across the Heart of the South West area work through the Devon devolution deal, Somerset local government reform and Government’s evolving policy on the future of LEPs.

As part of this change, the terms of Board members David Bird and Richard Stevens have been extended.

David Bird, Director at Isca Ventures LLP, said: "I am delighted to have the opportunity to extend my tenure on the Heart of the South West LEP Board. Over the years, I have witnessed the significant positive impact our collaborative efforts have made on the local business community and the wider region. This extension will allow us to build upon the momentum we have generated, get on with the job in hand and help to foster a seamless transition while paving the way for a prosperous future."

Richard Stevens, Managing Director at Plymouth Citybus, said: "The Heart of the South West LEP plays a vital role in shaping the economic landscape of our region and there remains a lot to do over the next year or so. I am thrilled to have my term extended, enabling me to continue working with fellow Board members and local authorities to support the growth and resilience of our local businesses. Together, we can create an environment conducive to innovation, investment, and sustainable economic progress."

By extending the terms of these accomplished private sector Board members, the LEP affirms its commitment to maintaining the valuable knowledge, experience, and leadership necessary to navigate the upcoming changes. This decision will aid in ensuring a smooth transition period, allowing the LEP to focus on continuing to support local businesses and Government.

Karl Tucker, Chair of the Heart of the South West LEP, said: "We are extremely fortunate to have such dedicated and talented Board members like David Bird and Richard Stevens. Their reappointment will provide much-needed stability and continuity as we navigate the transition period and work towards a seamless integration with local authorities. I am delighted that they will both continue to contribute their expertise and insights, to help drive the region's economic growth and prosperity.”

The Heart of the South West LEP remains committed to its mission of supporting businesses, attracting investment, and championing the region's economic potential. With the extension of these private sector Board members' terms, the LEP looks forward to an exciting future of collaboration, progress, and success.
